Courage and Craft liquor shop opens at Grand Central Market

The next time you visit Grand Central Market in downtown Los Angeles, you’ll be able to take a bottle of wine or gin home with your DTLA cheese, Clark Street Bread and fresh produce.

Courage and Craft, a boutique liquor, beer and wine stall run by Nicholas Krok, bar director at the Arts District Italian restaurant Bestia, and Ryan Duffy, a bar manager who has worked at Josef Centeno’s restaurants, is now open at the south corner of the Broadway entrance to the market. If you’re facing Egg Slut, look left.

Krok and Duffy have stocked the shelves of their stall with a small selection of small-batch liquors, bitters, cordials, mixers and wine. And in the cooler? Plenty of beer.

There are plans to expand the inventory, but for now you can find bottles of Ford’s gin, Nikka Coffey Grain Whisky, Willett Straight Rye Whiskey and Ocho Reposado tequilas. Expect the prices — which are not listed, so you’ll need to ask — to be a tad higher than a stand-alone liquor store. (A bottle of Ocho Reposado tequila is listed at multiple retailers online for around $50; at Courage and Craft it will cost you $72.)

Duffy and Kork plan to launch a delivery service to the surrounding area.

The new liquor shop joins a growing list of new projects at the market, including Golden Road Brewery, the vegan ramen-ya Ramen Hood and a pasta shop from Union’s Bruce Kalman.

Courage and Craft is open Sunday to Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Thursday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
