Downtown location of Five0Four to open in October with frozen daiquiri bar
A second location of Joshua Kopel’s Hollywood spot Five0Four is slated to open downtown in October. The New Orleans-inspired restaurant and bar has taken over the space formerly occupied by The Parish.
The 120-seat restaurant at the corner of Spring Street and Main Street includes two dining levels with a downstairs frozen daiquiri bar, an upstairs raw bar and stacked open-air patios.
“We are very excited to have created a place that encapsulates all of what New Orleans has to offer,” said Kopel in a release. “From the flavorful food and drinks to the lively and rambunctious setting, our new location will essentially be like the original Five0Four concept, but on steroids.”
Kopel teamed up with executive chef Michael Ruiz, formerly at the now-closed Cobras & Matadors and The Morrison to create what they call a California interpretation of New Orleans cuisine. Small dishes include a muffaletta plate with house-cured meats, and crispy frog legs with sauce picante.
Larger dishes include roasted grouper with Cajun rub, charred lemon and parsley; dirty rice bowls with blackened redfish, andouille sausage, spiced cabbage and peanuts; and grilled short ribs marinated with housemade Abita sauce, pickled peppers and Cajun kimchee.
Mixologist Pablo Moix (Melisse, Plan Check) designed a moonshine-based bar menu with classic New Orleans cocktails including hurricanes, juleps, moonshine margaritas and Sazeracs. And staying true to the Louisiana theme, there will be plenty of frosty Abita on tap with a large selection of other beers.
Five0Four plans on hosting regular events with a Bourbon Street brunch and “Superboil Saturdays”, and the bar will play every LSU and Saints game during the college and pro football seasons.
Five0Four will be open daily for lunch and dinner.
