Academy Awards telecast host Ellen DeGeneres ordered pizza for a crowd of hungry celebrities during Sunday night’s show, but the stars ended up eating more than a slice of Big Mama’s and Papa’s pizza. Wolfgang Puck and his culinary team cooked a lavish meal at the Governor’s Ball after the show.

It took 2,180 man-hours and a food staff of 350 people to prep for the party, where 6,500 Oscar-shaped flat breads, 1,300 oysters, 600 Maine lobsters and 10 pounds of winter black truffles from Burgundy were served.

Bars of snacks and tables full of food were set up inside the Ray Dolby Ballroom where the ball was held at the Hollywood & Highland Center at Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue. Snacks included crudités, homemade potato chips, chicharrónes and tortilla chips.

Puck created a meal of comfort foods with trays of spicy tuna tartare in sesame miso cones, assorted pizzas, tacos, crispy lobster dumplings, mini burgers and more being passed throughout the party.

Once the celebrities were seated, each table had its own platter of homemade pretzels and pimiento cheese, five-year aged Gouda, chilled Spanish shrimp, cauliflower with smoked paprika, Parmesan-stuffed bacon-wrapped dates, smoked almonds and breadsticks.

But the parade of food continued with sushi and shellfish stations and passed small plates of baked potato with caviar, chicken pot pie with black truffles, Shanghai lobster, baked macaroni and cheese and more.

For dessert, Puck created an entire buffet of chocolate with jars of candies and truffles, mini Oscar lollipops, chocolate-dipped cheesecake pops, vegan and gluten-free chocolate cupcakes, homemade chocolate spread with cinnamon pretzels, chocolate popcorn and assorted chocolate barks. And of course, 6,500 gold-dusted, chocolate Oscars.

And if you saved room after a pass through the chocolate bar, servers passed around plates of licorice and chocolate parfait, yuzu semifreddo, strawberry consomme, carrot cake and a caramel garden of coffee “soil,” chocolate malted tree and fleur de sel.

We’re guessing no one needed to stop the limo for late-night tacos on the way home from this soiree.
