Health-focused Stamp Proper Foods plans to open in Los Feliz next week

Stamp Proper Foods -- a restaurant and marketplace focusing on healthful, local ingredients and products for customers of any dietary persuasion, whether vegetarian, vegan or gluten-free -- is expected to open in Los Feliz on April 7.

The corner spot at Los Feliz Boulevard and Hillhurst Avenue (at the site of the former Brown Derby) will feature all-day menus for breakfast, lunch and dinner. For mornings, there’s chef Cat Baker’s mole omelet with black beans, brown rice, cotija cheese, house-made mole salsa, avocado and crema; Moroccan lentils and eggs with sautéed spinach, poached eggs, date chutney, toasted almonds, currants and grilled lemon; and avocado toast with tomato, sprouts, fresh herbs and cracked lemon pepper on house-made sprouted grain bagel.

A full-service espresso bar will be operated by Stumptown Coffee-trained baristas, and specialty smoothies include strawberry-tomato-basil, cocoa-and-kale and seasonal mixed berry, to go with Stamp Proper Foods’ baked goods from the pastry case.

Also on the health-focused menu: kelp noodle salad with green and red cabbage, carrots, snap peas, red peppers, pea sprouts, seaweed and toasted almonds served with pickled ginger and ginger lime dressing; bison meatloaf sandwich with sharp cheddar and spicy ketchup on sourdough bread; roasted sweet potato sandwich with arugula and sun-dried tomato goat cheese spread on honey bran bread; coconut chicken curry with broccoli, raisins and toasted almonds over cauliflower rice; and raw zucchini pasta with house-made pesto.

The market carries items such as cookbooks, gifts, vintage cooking items, retro housewares, skin products, hand-crafted accessories and food items, all meant to promote a healthful lifestyle.

The 2,000-square-foot space features indoor and outdoor seating, Edison light fixtures, rustic wood tables and black metal chairs, and chalkboards hang behind the marble counters, where cold cases display daily specials.
