Taco Bell says it did not create commercial featuring gay couple
Taco Bell said it was not responsible for a recent commercial featuring a gay couple enjoying its A.M. Crunchwraps for breakfast.
In the video, which has more than 135,000 views on YouTube, a gay couple has a “delish breakfast pit stop” at Taco Bell before work. In contemplating all the other things they could fit in before work, the couple get married, find buried treasure, ride a Ferris wheel ride, cuddle in the park, jet skis and play arcade games.
You can view the full commercial in the video above.
“We didn’t create this ad, but we can see the people who did share the same Live Mas passion for our brand — and our breakfast — as we do,” Taco Bell said in a statement to Mediaite.com.
The commercial features the brand’s signature Live Mas slogan at the end and the ding of the Taco Bell bell. And although the company is not claiming responsibility for the ad, it said it was impressed by the effort.
“Although we cannot condone unauthorized use of our intellectual property, we are impressed with their work and would be open to meeting with them,” reads the statement.
Just last year, Cheerios prompted controversy when it featured an interracial family in an ad. After the company aired the commercial, angry commenters flooded the ad’s YouTube page with overtly racist comments. General Mills, maker of Cheerios, was forced to temporarily disable the comments.
We have reached out to Taco Bell for further comment and will let you know when we hear back.
