That amazing Father’s Office burger? It’s headed to downtown L.A.
From the expansion of a Los Angeles burger legend to excellent pasta in Culver City, here’s what’s happening in the L.A. food and drink world:
Burger king: It’s a burger many have tried, lusted over and waited in line for. And now, it’s headed to downtown Los Angeles. Sang Yoon, the chef behind Lukshon, No. 3 on Jonathan Gold’s 101 Best Restaurants list, and the Father’s Office restaurants in Culver City and Santa Monica, is opening a third Father’s Office in the Arts District. This is where you’ll find Yoon’s Office Burger, a no-substitutions-allowed concoction of dry-aged beef, caramelized onion, applewood bacon, Gruyere and Maytag blue cheese, and arugula. As with the other two locations, Yoon says there will be some items specific to downtown. And as for the location? “The third one in the trilogy has been talked about and considered for quite some time,” Yoon said. “I was always looking for something Eastside. The Arts District to me feels very much like a neighborhood within an urban city.” Yoon says he plans to open the restaurant late this year. As at the other locations, there will be an extensive craft beer program, but Yoon says there will be a greater emphasis on spirits at the downtown restaurant. The 5,100-square-foot space, inside the Garey Building on East 2nd Street, will be designed by architect Ana Henton and include a patio with a living ceiling. 905 E. 2nd St., Los Angeles, fathersoffice.com.
For the record:
1:47 a.m. Nov. 25, 2024An earlier version of this post said Lukshon is NO. 2 on the Gold Best Restaurants list. It is NO. 3.
Pasta sisters: Two years ago, Pasta Sisters, a tiny, 12-seat shop selling and serving fresh pasta from two sisters, Paola Da Re and her sister Luisa, opened in a strip mall near Pico and Arlington boulevards. Now the shop has announced an expansion plan that includes a new 3,400-square-foot space with two patios and 90 seats in the Helms Bakery complex. When the new location opens this fall, you can expect plenty of spaghetti, tagliatelle and pappardelle in the sisters’ signature arrabbiata, Bolognese and pesto alla Genovese. The sisters also are making dessert, including tiramisu, apricot pie and chocolate and ricotta pie. 3280 Helms Ave., Culver City, www.pastasisters.com.
Breakfast is served: Chef Chris Phelps of Salt’s Cure in Hollywood has opened a new restaurant in West Hollywood called Breakfast. And yes, the new project specializes in all-day breakfast. The restaurant has moved into the space that Salt’s Cure occupied when it opened in 2011. (Salt’s Cure reopened in 2015 on Highland Avenue.) Those oatmeal griddle cakes that Phelps serves at Salt’s Cure? They are on the menu at Breakfast, along with toppings for the cakes, including roasted Pink Lady apples and spiced brown sugar; over-ripe bananas with toasted walnuts; and blueberries with flax crumble. You also can order eggs, sausage and hash browns. Breakfast is open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. through this Sunday, then starting May 15 the hours extend to 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. 7494 Santa Monica Blvd., in West Hollywood, (323) 848-4879.
Vodka cran, please: 213 Hospitality, along with Eric Alperin (of the Varnish) and Richard Boccato (of Dutch Kill) — the collective group behind the new Bar Clacson in downtown L.A. — has decided to open a bar within a bar, called the Slipper Clutch. Located in the back of Bar Clacson (look for the “Highballs” sign in the back), the Slipper Clutch has a menu of just eight cocktails, designed as elevated takes on classic highball cocktails, such as the vodka cranberry; gin and tonic; and rum and Coke. There’s also a house Old Fashioned, served out of a soda gun. 351 S. Broadway, Los Angeles, (213) 265-7477, www.theslipperclutch.com.

Some of the vendors include Butterleaf, Two Birds and Center Hub Bar, all by chef Andrew Gruel of Slapfish; Dos Chinos; Pig Pen Delicacy; and Portside Fish Co.
