John T. O’Loughlin Named Los Angeles Times Senior Vice President of Marketing, Planning and Development

LOS ANGELES, July 13, 2005 – The Los Angeles Times announced today that John T. O’Loughlin has been named senior vice president, marketing, planning and development effective Aug. 1.

O’Loughlin, 37, has been general manager of the Chicago Tribune’s RedEye edition since its inception and launch in 2002 where he was responsible for the publication’s editorial, circulation, operations, sales, marketing and financial functions.

He will have a dual reporting relationship to Times Publisher Jeff Johnson for planning and development and also David Murphy, Times executive vice president and general manager, for marketing.

“John is an outstanding executive who balances an understanding of the fundamentals of the newspaper business with an ability to innovate and create new products and solutions that meet the needs of both readers and advertisers,” said Johnson. “I’m confident that he’ll be a great addition to our senior management team.”

From 2001 to 2002, O’Loughlin was director, strategic marketing for Chicago Tribune Company, where he was responsible for all strategic planning and general marketing functions. In addition, he led the company’s integrated marketing efforts, including brand advertising and communications, ensuring that all marketing initiatives (in print and online) were aligned and supported the company’s revenue and readership goals.

O’Loughlin joined the Chicago Tribune in 1990 as a circulation management trainee and held numerous positions of increasing responsibility, including circulation director, group sales and marketing.

After earning a bachelor of arts degree in American studies in marketing and communication from the University of Notre Dame in 1990, O’Loughlin received a master’s degree in business management from Northwestern University’s J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management in 1997.
