SOUTHERN SECTION PLAYOFFS
Quarterfinals
DIVISION I
Westlake d. Mater Dei, 23-25, 25-23, 19-25, 25-19, 15-11
Santa Ana Mater Dei had second-seeded Westlake Village Westlake on the ropes all night Friday, but the Monarchs committed 46 unforced errors and that was just enough for Westlake to escape with a five-game victory in the Southern Section Divison I boys’ volleyball quarterfinal match.
The victory advances Westlake to Wednesday’s semifinal against Irvine Woodbridge.
Westlake was equally as bad, committing 44 unforced errors.
Host Mater Dei was up two games to one and seemingly in control, 15-13, in the fourth game when Westlake rallied with four consecutive points. The final point of that rally came on a kill by Joey Zuziak, capping the longest rally of the night.
Mater Dei led, 7-3, in the fifth game following a block by John Thomas. But Westlake caught the Monarchs at 10-10 and then Mater Dei surrendered four of the last five points on hitting errors.
Matt Schneider led Westlake with 14 kills. Thomas had 13 kills and two blocks for Mater Dei.

Fountain Valley d. Santa Margarita, 25-22, 16-25, 25-21, 31-29
Derek Hutton had 17 kills and 10 blocks, Michael Jordan had 15 kills, and Daniel Brahan had eight kills and eight blocks for visiting Fountain Valley (24-5). Michael Runkle had 23 kills and Patrick Eaton had 13 kills for host Santa Margarita (23-12).
Loyola d. Long Beach Wilson, 25-12, 25-16, 25-13
Junior opposite C.J. Schellenberg had 13 kills, senior middle blocker Matt Hillier had 11 kills, and senior setter Jimmy Killian had 33 assists for host No. 4-seeded Loyola (20-2). The game took 50 minutes. Long Beach Wilson finishes 29-6.
Woodbridge d. San Clemente, 23-25, 25-10, 25-23, 25-23
Jon Winder had 23 kills and six blocks and Kent Kraushaar had 17 kills to lead visiting Woodbridge (27-5) past third-seeded San Clemente (25-4). The Warriors will play second-seeded Westlake in the semifinals.
DIVISION II
Corona del Mar d. San Luis Obispo, 25-10, 25-18, 22-25, 25-23
Kevin Welch had 18 kills, Tom Welch 15 kills and Dominc Rubino 44 assists for Corona del Mar (21-10). San Luis Obispo finishes the season at 17-2.
Laguna Beach d. Santa Ynez, 23-25, 24-26, 25-23, 25-18, 15-12
Andrew Chapel and Luke Morris each collected 19 kills for Laguna Beach (15-7), which reaches the semifinals for the first time in five years. Talen Torriero added 13 kills and three blocks for Laguna Beach.
Santa Barbara d. Northwood, 25-19, 19-25, 25-20, 27-29, 15-8
Senior opposite Spencer Boyle had 15 kills for host No. 2-seeded Santa Barbara (16-9), which had five players in double digits on kills. Northwood is 13-10.
Valencia d. Dos Pueblos, 17-25, 25-16, 25-18, 25-17
DIVISION III
Estancia d. Hemet, 25-18, 25-14, 25-16
Josh Kornegay had 12 kills, Kris Hartwell had 10 kills, Brad Larsen had seven kills and 16 digs, and Trevor Holmes had 34 assists for No. 1-seeded host Estancia (26-6). Estancia had 13 service aces. Hemet finishes at 17-2.
Orange Lutheran d. Ocean View, 25-22, 25-20, 25-18
Scott Nickerson had 10 kills and Brandon Bollweg nine kills for Orange Lutheran (15-2).
Oxnard d. Santa Fe, 25-17, 25-14, 25-16
Tom Bossoletti had 35 assists and six kills, Jon Mason had 15 kills and David Cervantes had 12 kills to lead host No. 2-seeded Oxnard (20-3) over Santa Fe (20-2).
DIVISION IV
Brentwood d. South Pasadena, 25-12, 25-14, 25-17
Matt Ceran had 13 blocks, 10 kills, four aces and two assists, Ilan Goldstan had 13 assists, 8 kills and a block, and Matt Rapore had nine kills, three aces and a block for No. 2-seeded visiting Brentwood (15-1).
Mayfair d. Cerritos, 25-12, 25-16, 25-13
Manu Mafi had 10 kills and six aces, Jeff Beye 29 aces and Matt Stoker eight kills for top-seeded Mayfair (23-3), which reaches the semifinals for first time in school history. Mayfair will take on Oaks Christian Wednesday. Cerritos concludes at 12-7.
Oaks Christian d. Cerritos Valley Christian, 25-22, 25-18, 18-25, 25-19
Junior backrow specialist Jeff Gerlach had 16 digs and junior setter Brandon Denham had 61 assists and five kills for visiting Oaks Christian (26-2). No. 4-seeded Cerritos Valley Christian is 15-8.
Village Christian d. South Torrance, 25-21, 26-24, 19-25, 28-26
L.B. Blocker had 17 kills, Daniel Greenhaw had 12 and Andy Levoe had 47 assists for host Village Christian (14-3).
Thursday, May 20

Quarterfinals
DIVISION III
Camarillo d. Downey, 25-19, 23-25, 27-25, 25-12
Eric Vance had 30 kills and five blocks and Cory Hanson had 41 assists, eight blocks and seven aces for third-seeded Camarillo (14-5) at Downey. The Scorpions rallied from a 22-17 deficit to win the third game. Senior Ramsey Karame had 15 kills and his brother, freshman Erik Karame added 10 kills for fifth-seeded Downey (20-10).
Wednesday, May 19

DIVISION I
San Clemente d. Lakewood, 25-20, 25-17, 25-17
Curtis Yoder had 11 kills and Karl Metzger had 27 assists for host San Clemente (25-3). Dan Bashir had four aces for the third-seeded Tritons, who will host Woodbridge in a quarterfinal match Friday. Lakewood finishes 24-11.

DIVISION I
Fountain Valley d. Capistrano Valley, 25-16, 25-27, 20-25, 25-20, 15-8
Michael Jordan had 22 kills, Derek Hutton added 13 kills and Jeff Carnes had 40 assists to lead host Fountain Valley (23-5), which plays at Santa Margarita Friday. It will be the fourth time the teams have met this season and Fountian Valley is 1-2 in the previous matches. Capistrano Valley is 16-17.
Long Beach Wilson d. Newport Harbor, 27-25, 21-25, 25-18, 25-20
Long Beach Wilson took advantage of several unforced errors and used its superior athleticism to turn back Newport Harbor rallies and posted a 27-25, 21-25, 25-18, 25-20 victory Tuesday night in the second round of the Southern Section Division I Boys’ Volleyball Playoffs.
Gavin Christensen led the Bruins (29-5) with 13 kills. Jordan Van Rijsbergen had 12 kills and five blocks for Wilson, which advanced to meet L.A. Loyola on Friday. Morgan Govaars had 15 kills for Newport Harbor (23-8).
Wilson took charge of the match in the third game, marching out to a 17-10 lead on a kill by Rothana Tan. The Bruins used several unforced errors by Newport Harbor to take an 11-4 lead in the final game and they never looked back.

Loyola d. Moorpark, 25-17, 25-21, 25-17
No. 4-seeded Loyola improves to 19-2. Moorpark finishes 14-4.
Mater Dei d. Simi Valley, 21-25, 25-16, 27-25, 26-24
John Thomas had 14 kills and five blocks and Tyler Bayer had 49 assists and seven digs for visiting Mater Dei (18-11). Simi Valley finishes 13-5.
Santa Margarita d. Mira Costa, 25-23, 25-19, 25-20
Senior middle blocker Jeff English had 11 kills and senior outside hitter Michael Runkle added eight kills to lift visiting Santa Margarita (21-12). No. 1-seeded and No. 9-ranked Mira Costa finishes 23-4.
Westlake d. Crespi, 25-8, 23-25, 25-14, 25-14
Matt Schneider had 14 kills, Travis Foltz had 42 assists and Sam Cantor and Chirs Dehner each added 11 kills to lead host No. 2-seeded Westlake (23-1).
Woodbridge d. Huntington Beach, 20-25, 25-16, 25-20, 25-20
Kent Kraushaar had 23 kills, Jon Winder had 22 kills and Sean Kredle had 52 assists to lead host Woodbridge (26-5). Huntington Beach is 16-4.
DIVISION II
Corona del Mar d. West Valley, 25-23, 25-17, 25-13
Tom Welch had 14 kills, Austin Brawner added nine and Dominque Rubino had 34 assists for fourth-seeded Corona del Mar (20-10). West Valley finishes 17-1.
Laguna Beach d. Canyon Country Canyon, 25-19, 17-25, 25-22, 25-20
Luke Morris had 16 kills and 15 digs, Trey Chapel added 13 kills, Andrew Chapel had 11 and Talen Torriero recorded 10 kills and 12 digs for Laguna Beach (14-7). Canyon finishes 8-7.
Northwood d. Claremont, 25-20, 25-14, 25-20
Brett Vanlandingham had 16 kills, four blocks and seven aces and Brian Rodolff added nine kills and four blocks to lead host Northwood (13-9). Jeff Hendershot had 13 kills for Claremont (8-7).
San Luis Obispo d. Highland, 25-14, 25-16, 25-16
San Luis Obispo is 17-1. Highland finishes 13-3.
Santa Barbara d. Arcadia, 25-22, 25-13, 25-21
Buck Lindelof had 33 assists and Greg Schleck and Spencer Boyle each added 10 kills to lead host No. 2-seeded Santa Barbara (15-9). Dan Alexander had 19 kills for Arcadia (17-11).
Santa Ynez d. Ventura, 25-16, 25-22, 25-17
J.D. Scholeppenbach had nine kills and 12 digs and Steve Dodge added eight kills to lead visiting Ventura (16-7).
Valencia d. Crescenta Valley, 25-17, 25-17, 25-12
Tony Ker had 19 kills, 10 digs and two aces, Brian Skinner had eight kills and two blocks, Davey Rowley added eight kills and Ryan Dean had 32 assists for top-seeded Valencia (14-1). Crescenta Valley finishes 18-9.
Dos Pueblos d. Tesoro, 25-13, 25-16, 11-25, 25-21
DIVISION III
Camarillo d. Beverly Hills, 25-14, 25-12, 25-18
Cory Hanson had 30 assists and five kills, Eric Vance had 17 kills and Wes Fisher had five kills and five bocks for host No. 3-seeded Camarillo (13-5). Johnathan David had eight kills and Johnathan Ramin had 21 assists for Beverly Hills (9-12).
Downey d. Placentia Valencia, 24-26, 25-23, 25-20, 25-19
Ramsey Karame had 25 kills to lead visiting Downey (19-6), which hosts Camarillo Thursday at 7 p.m. Placentia Valencia is 8-9.
Estancia d. Century, 25-10, 25-10, 25-20
Kris Hartwell had 11 kills and five aces, Scott Sankey had 11 kills, Josh Kornegay added eight kills and three aces, Brad Larsen had six kills and nine digs and Trevor Holmes had 27 assists for host top-seeded Estancia (25-6).
Hemet d. Garey, 25-17, 24-26, 25-13, 25-19
Kevin Pratte had 20 kills, Ian Baily had 10 kills and 11 digs and Tim Shirley added 21 assists and eight blocks for host Hemet (17-1).
Ocean View d. Western, 25-23, 25-20, 25-21
Brad Sweezy had 10 kills and 10 blocks and Cody Dubarry added 10 kills for visiting Ocean View (12-12). Western finished 17-1.
Orange Lutheran d. Keppel, 25-12, 25-21, 25-22
Scott Nickerson had 11 kills and Blake Lucas added nine kills for visiting Orange Lutheran (14-2). Keppel finished 16-4.
Oxnard d. West Torrance, 25-8, 25-16, 25-9
Senior setter Tom Bossoletti had 32 assists and junior David Cervantes, senior Jon Mason and junior Charles Keeranan each had 11 kills for visiting No. 2-seeded Oxnard (19-3). West Torrance is 11-19.
Santa Fe d. Los Altos, 25-15, 22-25, 25-13, 23-25, 15-5
Senior outside hitter Adam Church had 37 kills for visiting Santa Fe (20-1).
DIVISION IV
Brentwood d. Oak Park 25-21, 25-12, 25-11
Ilan Goldstein had 15 assists and nine kills, Matt Ceran had 14 kills, four blocks and two kills and Matt Rapore added five kills and three aces to lead Brentwood (14-1). Nick Drake tallied six kills and two aces and Tito Goldstein dished out 14 assists for Brentwood.
Cerritos d. Crossroads, 20-25, 15-25, 25-14, 25-17, 15-11
Junior outside hitter Ellis Uyan had 17 kills and senior middle blocker Jeremiah Juwono had 11 blocks for host Cerritos (12-6). Crossroads is 12-8.
Mayfair d. Garden Grove, 25-13, 25-18, 25-15
Top-seeded Mayfair improves to 22-3. Garden Grove is 10-8.
Oaks Christian d. Garden Grove Pacifica, 25-12, 25-23, 26-24
Kyle Lopez had 12 kills and four blocks and Kevin McClure had eight kills and three blocks to lead host Oaks Christian (25-2).
South Torrance d. Westminster La Quinta, 25-15, 20-25, 25-14, 25-17
Tommy Butler had 17 kills, Andrew Saldivar had 15 kills and Bryan White and Shant Baboujian each added 11 kills to lead host South Torrance (18-4), which plays at No. 4-seeded Village Christian Friday. Westminster La Quinta is 15-5.
Village Christian d. Norco, 25-14, 25-22, 25-20
Daniel Greenhaw had 16 kills, LB Blocker added 14 kills and Andy Levoe had 35 assists to lead visiting Village Christian (13-3).

Ryan Burch had 19 kills, Mike Fey had 11 kills and Jason Torrado added 10 kills to lead host La Salle (15-7), which plays Windward on May 26 at a neutral site. No. 3-seeded Brethren Christian is 15-2.
Pasadena Poly d. Salesian, 25-17, 25-16, 21-25, 25-14
Phillip Rosenberg had 38 kills, two blocks and three aces and Winston Mi added 36 assists to lead visiting Pasadena Poly (21-0).
Sage Hill d. Viewpoint, 25-23, 18-25, 17-25, 25-21, 15-13
Kevin Joyce had 38 kills to lead Sage Hill (17-1). Omar Abuzaineh had 34 kills and Mike Larner added 28 kills for visiting Viewpoint (16-6).
Windward d. Flintridge Prep, 22-25, 27-25, 25-20, 25-18
Senior middle blocker Julian Stein had 15 kills and senior outside hitter J.T. McLain had 18 kills for visiting No. 2-seeded Windward (19-3). Flintridge Prep finishes 16-7.
