Earthquake: 3.1 quake strikes near Anza

A shallow magnitude 3.1 earthquake was reported Tuesday morning 11 miles from Anza, Calif., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 1:21 a.m. PST at a depth of 5 miles.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was 14 miles from La Quinta, 16 miles from Palm Desert and 16 miles from Rancho Mirage.

In the past 10 days, there have been three earthquakes magnitude 3.0 or greater centered nearby.
