Earthquake: 2.9 quake strikes near Eureka
A shallow magnitude 2.9 earthquake was reported Tuesday morning near Eureka in far Northern California, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 7:37 a.m. Pacific time at a depth of 13.0 miles.
According to the USGS, the epicenter was located just offshore, six miles west of Ferndale, Calif., 19 miles from Eureka and 205 miles from Sacramento.
In the last 10 days, there has been one earthquake magnitude 3.0 and greater centered nearby.
