Decapitated body, head found in Irwindale
A decapitated body was found in a riverbed in Irwindale and a head was recovered nearby, a police official said Thursday night.
A man scavenging for recyclables made the grisly discovery shortly before 5:30 p.m. near Foothill Boulevard and Irwindale Avenue, police said. The man alerted authorities.
Irwindale Police Chief Anthony Miranda said the head was about 20 feet from the body, which appeared to have been at the scene for about a week.
“We don’t know why or how he lost his head,” Miranda told The Times. “It’s very suspicious right now.”
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department homicide detectives were assisting Irwindale police with the investigation. No other details were immediately available.
