Video shows LAPD shooting bank robbery suspect
A man was taken into custody by police in downtown Los Angeles on Monday morning after he allegedly tried to use the threat of a bomb to rob a bank, authorities said.
The FBI responded to a reported robbery at Chase Bank off 9th and Hill streets about 9:40 a.m., said bureau spokeswoman Laura Eimiller.
The man was carrying a bag and told people inside the bank that he had explosives on him, LAPD Officer Drake Madison told KTLA-TV.
Because of the bomb threat, an LAPD bomb squad also went to the scene and made sure the suspicious package posed no danger, authorities said. Video taken from a witness outside the bank and obtained by KTLA shows officers approaching a man standing in front of the bank.
The man reached down to a bag at his feet and grabbed what appeared to be a wad money, throwing it at the officers, who had their guns trained on him. A shot rang out and the man fell to the ground before being taken into custody.
Officers had used nonlethal beanbag bullets to subdue the man, KTLA reported. No injuries were reported.
