The flames appeared about 11:39 a.m. and ran uphill, charring brush and vegetation along East Potrero Road and Pixton Street, near houses in the area, according to the Ventura County Fire Department.

More than 80 firefighters worked to put out the blaze and provide protection to homes, the Fire Department said.
