Eastbound 22 Freeway connector from 405 to close this weekend

A busy connector that links the southbound 405 Freeway leaving Long Beach to the eastbound 22 Freeway near Seal Beach will be closed this weekend so work can continue on a $277-million road project.

The connector, which carries 63,000 vehicles a day on average, will be shut down for lane restriping and to allow traffic to be switched from the existing connector to a new bridge.

The 55-hour closure will begin Friday at 10 p.m. and continue to 5 a.m. Monday.

Signs will be posted and eastbound motorists can reconnect with the 22 by exiting the southbound 405 at Westminster Boulevard East, turning left on Goldenwest Street and proceed to the eastbound 22.

In addition to the connector, the Valley View Street off-ramp and on-ramp along the eastbound 22 will be closed, as well as Garden Grove Boulevard between Valley View and the Valley View off-ramp on the northbound 405.

The work is part of the West County Connectors project by Caltrans and the Orange County Transportation Authority that will link carpool lanes on the 405, 605 and 22 freeways. The six-mile long project involves Garden Grove, Long Beach, Los Alamitos, Seal Beach and Westminster.
