Man killed girlfriend, buried her body in backyard, officials say

A 22-year-old Compton man was arrested on suspicion of murder after he told authorities he had killed his girlfriend and buried her in a backyard.

Authorities said they were called to the 400 block of South Pannes Avenue at 10:53 p.m. Monday to investigate a domestic disturbance.

When they arrived, they discovered a mound of freshly-ground dirt in the backyard, according to a news release.

With the assistance of the Compton Fire Department, authorities partially unearthed the grave and found the body of a young woman.

The suspect, Devion Anderson, surrendered at the Compton sheriff’s station. He admitted to killing and burying his girlfriend and was arrested. He is being held in lieu of $1 million.

The name of the woman was not released because authorities had not yet notified her family.
