High school girl killed in Whittier rollover crash, classmates injured
A high school student was killed in Whittier on Tuesday when the car she and other classmates were riding in lost control and rolled over, authorities said.
A witness told the Whittier Daily News he was practicing on a golf course when he heard screeching, then a “really loud crash.”
Police said one person inside the vehicle died and several others were taken to hospitals.
In a statement, Whittier Union High School District Assistant Supt. of Educational Servcies Loring Davies identified the dead girl as a La Serna High School student.
“It is with great sadness that I let you all know that there was a car crash outside the La Serna campus this morning involving an adult driver and five [La Serna] students. One of our students was killed in the crash, the other four were injured,” Davies said. “The district is working with the Whittier Police Department to determine the details surrounding the accident. Given the gravity of the situation, students have been allowed to respond to texts/calls from parents to confirm that they are safe. The district will work with [La Serna] to ensure counselors are available to all students and staff through the week.”
Police said the crash occurred just before 11:30 a.m. in the 8400 block of Villaverde Drive and that no other vehicles were involved. The accident is still under investigation, and the female victim has not been identified.
