Man shot, killed in Pomona one day after vigil against gun violence
A man walked up to a car in Pomona and opened fire Monday, killing an occupant, police said. A day earlier hundreds of people gathered to pray for an end to gun violence in the city.
The shooting, which killed Daniel Diaz, 33, of West Covina, occurred about 12:45 a.m. near the intersection of Park Avenue and Mayfair Street, according to the Pomona Police Department.
Four men were in the car. They had just dropped off a friend when someone walked up and started shooting. Diaz, the only person shot, was pronounced dead at a hospital about 30 minutes later, according to police.
A description of the shooter was not immediately released.

This was the latest in a string of deadly shootings that have hit the city.
On Sunday, more than 200 people gathered in the football stands of Ganesha High School to pray for an end to violence in the city.
“The city of Pomona needs not only a religious revival but a revival of their minds -- people have to know, this is not the scum of the Earth. This is a place that can be built up,” community leader Jason Scott told CBSLA.
