LAPD will investigate officers involved in USC party clash
Los Angeles police said they have opened an internal investigation into the police response at an off-campus house party near USC after several people made formal complaints alleging racial bias and use of heavy-handed tactics.
Department officials told The Times that in response to the complaints they would fully examine the LAPD response including interviews with party-goers, officers and other witnesses as well as a review of video taken of the incident.
Department officials said that dashboard digital video and audio from cameras in patrol cars would provide additional evidence to help them in them their review.
In all, six people were arrested at a house party that LAPD officials said got out of hand. After police detained a party promoter, some party-goers responding by pelting officers with debris, officials said.
One police officer was injured in the early Sunday morning incident, said LAPD Lt. Andy Neiman.
Several USC students told the Daily Trojan that the LAPD’s response with dozens of officers in riot gear was overly aggressive and uncalled for. Students were planning a sit-in from noon to 4 p.m. Monday at the campus.
