Man pleads not guilty to killing girlfriend with heroin overdose

A 36-year-old man has pleaded not guilty to charges he killed his girlfriend with a fatal injection of heroin while she was being treated for an infection at a Pomona hospital.

Steven Crow was charged Monday with one count each of murder and offering to sell a controlled substance in the 2012 death of his girlfriend, the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office said in a statement.

On May 2, 2012, Rebecca Henry was admitted to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center for an infection related to intravenous drug use. Henry became unresponsive and was placed on life support.

She died of a heroin overdose the next day, prosecutors said.

At the time, Pomona police suspected that Crow, her longtime boyfriend, brought heroin in a syringe to the hospital and injected her with it.

Detectives continued to investigate Henry’s death for two years and on April 21 obtained a criminal filing for a murder charge against Crow.

He was arrested June 24 after a Pomona resident saw wanted fliers with Crow’s picture on it and saw him get on a bus. Patrol officers stopped the bus and arrested him on suspicion of murder.

Crow’s next scheduled court appearance is Oct. 9 in Pomona. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 16 years to life in state prison.
