Man killed by Metrolink train in Van Nuys
An eastbound Metrolink train struck and killed a man a mile before the Van Nuys station late Friday afternoon, an agency official said.
The incident, reported by the train crew at 4:43 p.m., occurred in an area where pedestrians are prohibited, according to Scott Johnson, a Metrolink spokesman.
“It was not at a crossing,” he said.
Los Angeles police were called to the scene, he said. Authorities have not released details about the victim or what he was doing on the tracks.
There were 35 passengers aboard Train 150 when it hit the man, Johnson said. They were informed what happened and remained on board until 6:30 p.m., when the train continued its journey from Chatsworth to Union Station.
The death is the second in two days on local train tracks. At the Civic Center/Grand Park station in downtown Los Angeles on Thursday afternoon, a man was killed after he appeared to jump in front of a Metro Red Line train.
