Man killed at park in Riverside officer-involved shooting
A man who authorities say pulled a handgun on police has died at a park in Riverside after an officer-involved shooting.
About 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, two Riverside police officers “contacted” the man at Arlington Park near the 3800 block of Van Buren Boulevard, Lt. Guy Toussaint said. The man pulled a handgun and an officer-involved shooting occurred, Toussaint said.
The adult male suspect, who was not immediately identified, died at the scene, Toussaint said. The officers were uninjured.
Toussaint said it was not clear whether one or both officers fired or how many rounds were fired. He said the reason for the initial contact between officers and the suspect was not immediately known.
Toussaint said witnesses at the scene will undergo interviews. The identification of the suspect was not immediately released.
