Man found shot to death inside crashed vehicle in Westmont
Homicide detectives are investigating the shooting death of an 18-year-old man whose body was discovered in his vehicle after colliding into a center median in a South Los Angeles neighborhood.
Witnesses told detectives they heard loud arguing about 5:49 a.m. Thursday and then gunshots in the neighborhood of 91st Street and Vermont Avenue in Westmont, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Soon after the gunshots, the man, who was identified as Clayton Shuford of Los Angeles, drove east on 91st and collided into the center median on Vermont.
No description of the shooter was available.
Shuford’s death follows a similar shooting incident late Wednesday in Montebello, where a 25-year-old man was found dead from gunshot wounds inside a vehicle that crashed into a telephone pole near Sycamore and South Spruce streets, sheriff’s officials said.
Witnesses heard multiple gunshots and then saw the man driving erratically on Sycamore.
The victim’s identity hasn’t been released.
Anyone with details about either of the shooting deaths was encouraged to call the sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
