Westmont, L.A. County’s deadliest area, logs another homicide
L.A. County sheriff’s detectives are looking for clues in the stabbing death of a man Thursday inside a motel room in Westmont.
Deputies were called to the 10400 block of South Vermont Avenue about 10:40 a.m. after a hotel manager found a man dead in one of 21 rooms at the Western Motel, said sheriff’s Det. Louie Aguilera.
HOMICIDE REPORT: A story for every victim
Investigators do not yet have a motive and are processing the crime scene.
Thursday’s death marks 101 homicides in the unincorporated area of Westmont since 2007, according to the L.A. Times’ Homicide Report.
In a county of 10 million people, Westmont is among the deadliest places to live. In the last seven years, now 101 people — nearly all of them male — have been killed in the 1.8-square miles wedged between the city of Los Angeles and Inglewood. Times analysis of homicide data collected in that period found Westmont’s rate of killings to be the highest overall.
Anyone with information can call the sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
