Gusty winds, low humidity and very dry brush conditions prompted fire officials to issue a red flag warning throughout much of Southern California on Saturday.

The alert was expected to remain in place until about 6 p.m. Saturday, the National Weather Service station in San Diego said.

Relative humidity was predicted to be as low as 5% to 10% in some areas, the weather service said, and the readings were not expected to improve much overnight.

Winds of 5 to 15 mph were recorded across much of the area, including Orange County mountains, San Diego inland valleys and mountains and Riverside County valleys.
