Pimp who forced women into prostitution sent to prison -- again

A Long Beach man who’d previously been sent to prison for forcing minors into prostitution was ordered Friday to spend 14 more years behind bars on similar charges.

William “Andre” Earl Flavors, 40, was accused of acting as a pimp when he took two women from Long Beach to Las Vegas, where federal officials said he forced them to work as prostitutes and abused one of them, not allowing her to leave him.

Federal officials said he beat one woman and burned her legs with cigarette.

Flavors, who pleaded guilty in December to the charges, was ordered to spend 14 years in prison, the same number of years he was ordered to spend behind bars in 2000.

Before he was sentenced this time, Flavors wrote a letter to U.S. District Judge Josephine Staton, blaming the judicial system for not giving him a chance, and setting him up to fail.

“I believe if I was given that chance I would not have been in this predicament,” he wrote in the letter.

But Staton responded that “beating women and forcing them into prostitution is not a “predicament,” but a choice --a choice that defendant made,” according to a U.S. Attorney’s office statement.

She ordered Flavors to serve 10 years in prison, but ordered the sentence to run consecutively with a four-year prison term that he already received for a separate 2012 conviction.

In 2000, Flavors was sentenced for taking a 15-year-old girl and 17-year-old girl from Washington, and forcing them into prostitution in Orange County.

He reportedly beat one girl with a clothes hanger, burned her with a curling iron and forced her to drink from cups filled with urine and cigarette butts, authorities said.
