San Bernardino man suspected in wife’s slaying is arrested in Florida
A man suspected of killing his wife in San Bernardino has turned himself into federal authorities Saturday in Tampa, Fla., and is awaiting extradition to California, according to officials.
Edly Albert Atherley showed up at the FBI’s Tampa office at about 3 p.m. Saturday and remains at the Hillsborough County Jail following his arrest, authorities said.
Police have been searching for Atherley since late November, when they found his wife, Ashley Atherley, stabbed to death at her home.
Atherley, 29, had last been seen Nov. 30 with wounds to his right hand and arm, officials said. He and the victim, 28, had two children, and family members said Ashley had left her husband weeks before she was killed.
“We are relieved to know that he is now in custody and that he cannot harm anyone else,” Lucia Robles, Ashley Atherley’s mother, said in a statement given Saturday night to the Tampa Bay Times.
“Our prayer is that the judicial process will unfold in a timely and just manner so that Ashley’s death will be properly recorded as a domestic violence murder and our family can experience justice for the loss of Ashley’s beautiful and productive life.”
