Soldier from Northern California dies in Afghanistan
Reporting from San Diego — A soldier from Northern California has died from a non-combat related incident in Afghanistan, the Pentagon announced.
Sgt. Christopher Mulalley, 26, of Eureka, died Friday in Gardez, Afghanistan. The incident is under investigation, the Pentagon said.
Mulalley was on his second tour in Afghanistan. He had also deployed to Iraq.
An infantryman, he was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 3rd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, from Ft. Hood, Texas. He enlisted in July 2006.
Among his awards are a Combat Infantry Badge and an Expert Infantry Badge.
