U.S. marshals shoot suspect in San Diego confrontation
A felony drug suspect is in critical condition at a San Diego hospital after being wounded during a confrontation Wednesday with two deputy U.S. marshals, the San Diego Police Department said.
The marshals were attempting to arrest the suspect on a felony warrant and drug charges when he attempted to flee by ramming the deputies’ cars and driving directly at them, said Lt. Ernie Herbert of the Police Department’s homicide unit.
After initially getting out of his car, the suspect “suddenly got back into his car and began ramming the deputies’ cars in an effort to get away,” Herbert said.
Both deputies fired at the suspect during the afternoon confrontation in the Clairemont neighborhood, Herbert said. One deputy is a 10-year veteran, the other is a five-year veteran. Neither was hurt.
