Trash truck fatally strikes pedestrian in Beverly Grove
A 60-year-old woman was struck and killed by a garbage truck Thursday morning in Beverly Grove.
Police believe the woman was crossing West Third Street at Almont Drive at 8 a.m. when she was hit by the city sanitation truck, said Los Angeles Police Officer Dan Hankins.
The truck’s driver was attempting to turn right onto Almont Drive but wasn’t able to complete the sharp turn, Hankins said.
The driver then stopped and began to back up, he said.
The woman, who was not immediately identified, was struck as the truck was backing up, said Jane Kim, an LAPD spokeswoman. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
