Water pipe rupture in Hollywood Hills forces closure of Cahuenga Boulevard
A water pipe ruptured Sunday in the Hollywood Hills, spilling 1,000 gallons of water per minute and forcing the closure of a portion of Cahuenga Boulevard.
An 8-inch water main ruptured just before noon in the 3300 block of Oak Glen Drive, said Brian Humphrey, spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The gushing water forced the closure of the southbound lanes of 3300 block of Cahuenga Boulevard and Oak Glen Drive. But the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power was able to stem the majority of the water flow, Humphrey said.
Records from the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power show three water main leaks have occurred on Oak Glen Drive since late 2011.
Six businesses on Cahuenga were damaged by the water leak, including Lousey Nitpickers, a lice-removal company, according to the fire department.
The garage of one home on Oak Glen Drive was also damaged.
There have been no injuries and no evacuations, Humphrey said.
