Zelda Williams back on Twitter with message for her online harassers

Nearly three weeks after Robin Williams’ daughter quit social media after “cruel and unnecessary” comments were posted on Twitter, she returned Monday with a message for her online harassers.

Zelda Williams posted her latest message Monday, simply saying “thank you” with a link to the Harvey Fierstein quote: “Never be bullied into silence. Never allow yourself to be made a victim. Accept no one’s definition of your life; define yourself.”

The actress went silent after a pair of social-media users posted fake photographs of her father’s body with bruises around his neck on her Twitter and Instagram accounts. Others blamed her for her father’s death.

Robin Williams was found dead by his personal assistant Aug. 11 inside his Tiburon, Calif., home. Authorities said it appeared the cause of death was “asphyxia due to hanging,” although toxicology reports for a final report will take weeks.

The online harassment of his daughter sparked widespread outrage as thousands on social media offered support. Some on Twitter called for the offending users to be permanently banned from social-media site.

Supporters on Monday welcomed Zelda Williams’ return to social media, including Robert McLaws, who wrote: “Please don’t let the indecent people darken the light your father brought to all of us.”
