High school stabbing victim identified, third suspect arrested
A third suspect has been arrested in the fatal stabbing of an 18-year-old man at Cleveland High School in Reseda, Los Angeles police said.
In addition to Michael Steven Carpio, 19, of Panorama City and the 16-year-old, police said they also arrested Michelle Pineda, 19, of Los Angeles.
The three were arrested about 12:15 a.m. Thursday on suspicion of murder, police said.
Kevin Orellano, an adult school student at West Valley Occupational Center in Woodland Hills, died from a stab wound he received in a fight just before 4 p.m. Wednesday at Cleveland High.
Orellano was playing handball when two males –- police say they are suspected gang members –- approached. Orellano got into an argument with one of the two, and it turned into a fight when Orellano was punched.
As the two fought, the second suspect pulled out a pocket knife and stabbed Orellano, police said.
Orellano was not a gang member, police said.
Witnesses reported seeing Orellano’s two attackers escape in a waiting minivan driven by a young woman. Using social media and other methods, police tracked down the alleged attackers and getaway driver.
