Human remains found near bike path in Montebello
Authorities are investigating the discovery of human remains Wednesday morning near the Rio Hondo bike path in Montebello, a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department official said.
A bicyclist discovered the remains about 11:30 a.m. and called the Montebello Police Department, said sheriff’s Lt. Dave Coleman. The Sheriff’s Department is aiding police in investigating the case.
Coleman did not say whether the agencies believe the remains, which were strewn out near the trail, are a result of a homicide.
“Obviously, finding remains in an area like that is suspicious in nature,” he said.
The investigation is ongoing, Coleman said.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff’s Department homicide bureau at (323) 890-5500.
Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
