Toddler with visible injuries found dead in Alpine
ALPINE — A toddler with visible injuries was found dead at an Alpine home Tuesday, and homicide detectives are investigating, a sheriff’s official said.
A family member found the 18-month-old girl in a motor home parked at the house on Hunter Way west of Arnold Way shortly after noon, sheriff’s Lt. Kenn Nelson said. Investigators initially said the child was an infant.
Paramedics performed CPR on the girl, but she died before she could be taken to a hospital. Fire officials requested child abuse and homicide detectives come to the home after noticing the toddler had “external injuries,” Nelson said.
The Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the child’s cause of death.
“Based on the totality of the circumstances, we took over the investigative responsibility,” the lieutenant said.
The girl lived with her mother at the house on Hunter, which is owned by family members of the mother’s boyfriend, Nelson said.
