Caught on video: Deer rips through N.J. yogurt shop

Surveillance video caught all the action recently when a deer busted through the plate-glass window of a New Jersey yogurt shop, tore through the joint and caused about $5,000 in damage, before leaving through an open door.

Adding insult to injury? The deer never even bothered to order anything.

The deer seemed as shocked and surprised by the unfolding events as owner Alan Prachar and his daughter, who had closed up their yogurt shop for the night on Oct. 14 and were finishing off some final tasks when the action began.

“We heard this tremendous crash,” Prachar told a local CBS news station.

Father and daughter can be seen in the video rushing through the swinging door from the kitchen, only to pull back -- startled -- when they see the deer.

The deer galloped around a few times and in the process shredded some fabric covering a bench seating area. Soon the creature came to rest, seemingly exhausted by all the activity, right near the front door of Peachwave Yogurt in Holmdale, N.J.

A friend of Prachar’s who works nearby put an end to the deer’s ordeal by calmly walking over to a door and opening it.

Bambi sprang to its feet and galloped away, apparently unscathed.

Guess the deer decided to check out the yogurt store but wasn’t thrilled by any of the options. Prachar said he’d never seen deer around the store, but others said deer are sometimes seen in a nearby wooded area.

In all, the deer caused about $5,000 in damage, Pracher said.

Although the incident happened last month, it’s making the online rounds now because Prachar posted the surveillance video on YouTube this week, setting it all to “Benny Hill” music.
