No-hoax viral video: Man proposes to boyfriend at Home Depot [Video]

Video of a gay marriage proposal at a Salt Lake City Home Depot -- with a flash mob -- is gaining steam online, and Jimmy Kimmel (king of the video hoax) had nothing to do with it.

Spencer Stout proposed to Dustin Reeser amid friends and family. As the flash mob danced to Betty Who’s “Somebody Loves You,” little girls in tutus did cartwheels and moms and dads marched in with big smiles.

An employee at the Salt Lake City Home Depot told the Los Angeles Times on Friday morning that the event took place Sept. 1 in the main lumber aisle of the store: “They had to clear out a whole aisle for the flash mob.”

Stout told the local Fox News outlet that the couple chose Home Depot because the site “was kind of our first date.”

The video, posted Wednesday, had nearly 800,000 views on YouTube as of Friday morning. Their message: “Spencer and Dustin would like to thank all of our amazing family and friends for their continued love and support!”

The couple, however, could have a long wait if they want to get married in Utah. The state has a ban on gay marriage. Three Utah couples recently challenged the law. In mid-August, the state attorney general’s office argued against their stance in a legal brief, saying the ban does not violate the U.S. Constitution.

Utah state Sen. Jim Dabakis, an openly gay lawmaker, told the Deseret News that the ban discriminates and “our elected officials should have the guts to say the truth. ... They favor that discrimination.”
