Washington Navy Yard shooting: Injuries, multiple weapons reported
Several people reportedly were wounded Monday morning in a shooting at the Washington Navy Yard.
A release from the U.S. Navy at 8:20 a.m. EDT reported an active gunman inside the Naval Sea Systems Command Headquarters building. A tweet from the official Navy account about half an hour later said a “still active shooter” was at large.
According to CNN, several people had been injured.
Meanwhile, District of Columbia Mayor Vincent Gray tweeted, asking people to “stay clear of the Washington Navy Yard.”
Emergency personnel were on scene as an order to “shelter in place” was issued for Navy Yard personnel.
[Updated, 6:32 a.m. PDT Sept. 16: The local ABC affiliate reported on Twitter that a military police officer had been shot in the legs and the shooter had multiple guns.]
