FBI says it stopped potential terrorism attack in Minnesota
Federal authorities said they believe they have stopped a potential terrorism attack in western Minnesota, the FBI said on Monday.
Officials on Friday arrested a 24-year-old man in Montevideo, Minn., and recovered firearms, FBI spokesman Kyle A. Loven told the Los Angeles Times on Monday.
“This was a potential terror plot,” Loven said in a telephone interview.
He said he could not comment on whether officials believe the man acted alone or was acting with others.
“This is an ongoing investigation,” Loven said.
The arrested man was identified as Buford Rogers, who has been convicted for burglary and is not allowed to have any firearms. He was being held on a firearms charge.
A search of Rogers’ home at a mobile park uncovered Molotov cocktails and suspected pipe bombs and guns, according to officials.
One of the recovered weapons was an assault rifle.
