16 New Jersey garage workers have winning Powerball ticket
Sixteen workers from a county garage in a New Jersey coastal community ravaged by Hurricane Sandy hold one of the three winning tickets in the $448 million Powerball jackpot.
Ocean County officials told the Associated Press that workers in the county’s vehicle service department have a winning ticket, but were still at work Friday morning and asking for their privacy.
A spokeswoman for the New Jersey Lottery, reached by the Los Angeles Times by phone on Friday, cautioned that nobody has officially come forward yet with the second winning ticket.

On Thursday, a Minnesota engineer, Paul White, claimed his third of the winnings. The owner of the third winning ticket, also sold in New Jersey, has not yet been identified.
If collected as a lump sum, each winning ticket is worth $86 million before taxes, or $58.3 million after taxes. They are each worth $149.4 million over 30 years if the winners choose the annuity option.
The ticket was sold at an Acme Markets store in Little Egg Harbor, an area hit hard by Sandy last fall.
Jim Pine, director of the Ocean County Vehicle Maintenance Department, told the Press of Atlantic City that he couldn’t be happier for the group of workers who told county officials that they won.
“They’re a group of wonderful, hardworking people, and them showing up for work today ought to tell you something,” he told the newspaper.
