Letters: Integrating a prom
Re “Students plan county’s first integrated prom,” April 21
It’s embarrassing that nearly 50 years after the civil rights movement, students in rural Georgia must campaign to hold their area’s first integrated prom.
The kids are so good-natured about this (case in point: a black student shrugging off a comment by a coach saying he could dance with his white daughter only if he’s far away) that I get the impression they are used to this kind of behavior.
My God, as a society we should be smarter than this.
