Video may show suspect in Woolwich attack
LONDON -- A man who may be a suspect in an attack Wednesday near a military barracks in the Woolwich section of the city was shown on television holding knives in bloody hands and making statements that suggested he may have been motivated by Islamic militancy.
The ITV television network said it had obtained video in which the man speaks into a camera, saying: “We swear by almighty Allah we will never stop fighting you.”
The man is suspected of being one of two involved in the midafternoon attack. According to unconfirmed reports, the attackers hit the victim with a car and then attacked him with various bladed weapons.
The attackers were shot by police and taken to hospitals; the victim died of his wounds.
In the ITV video, the man is seen saying: “I apologize that women had to witness this today. But in our lands, our women have to see the same. You people will never be safe. Remove your government -- they don’t care about you.”
