What’s the worst way to insult a woman?
Women had a lot to celebrate this year.
Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton’s popularity skyrocketed, transforming her into a meme-worthy political icon. Women not only had a powerful voice at the polls in November, but female politicians also made historic gains in Washington (women will now hold 20 seats in the U.S. Senate). Marissa Mayer nabbed the top job at Yahoo -- when she was pregnant no less. The Summer Olympics saw an impressive roster of female athletes, including from countries that hadn’t previously allowed women to participate in the Games. And Seventeen magazine promised to showcase photos of healthier models in its pages, the kind of girls its readers can relate to.
It wasn’t all good news, though. Women’s healthcare was threatened, rape victims were insulted, and don’t get me started on Chris Brown’s comeback tour, which seemed to double as a celebration of domestic abuse.
Here, then, are this year’s seven worst insults to women.
