Orange man is second diver to die off Laguna Beach coast since June

A 48-year-old Orange man died Saturday while scuba diving off Laguna Beach’s coast near Heisler Park, authorities said.

At approximately 7:50 a.m., lifeguards responded to Picnic Beach for an unconscious scuba diver that had been pulled out of the water by “good Samaritans,” said Laguna Beach marine safety Capt. Kai Bond.

Bond said that lifeguards administered CPR to the victim, who did not have a pulse and was apneic, until Laguna Beach Fire Department paramedics arrived to transport the patient to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo, where he was declared dead.

Another diver died in Laguna Beach on June 18.
