A resident in the 2200 block of Rutgers Drive called police around 7:25 p.m. Thursday to report that a nearby house was being broken into, police Sgt. Mike Manson said.

When officers arrived, they found a woman with cash, purses and other personal property believed to have been taken from the home, according to police.

Manson said it appeared the woman had entered the house through a window. It’s unclear whether the window was locked.

Police arrested Brittany Bass, 25, who Manson said had come from Seattle to Costa Mesa for rehabilitation before becoming homeless. Police did not specify the nature of her rehab.
