Goldenrod bridge may get historic designation
The Newport Beach City Council plans to pursue a local historic designation for the Goldenrod concrete pedestrian bridge, which was built in 1928.
Rather than embark on the lengthy application process for state-level recognition, which could slow future public works projects on the bridge, council members decided Tuesday that the site should be honored on a local level.
Under council policy K-2, sites in Newport Beach can be added to the city’s Register of Historical Property under five classifications: major historic landmark, historic landmark, local historic site, structure of historic interest and point of historic interest.
