Costa Mesa DUI checkpoint yields arrests
Costa Mesa police arrested six people Friday night on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
From 9 p.m. to 2 a.m., officers ran a checkpoint at Bristol Street and Randolph Avenue.
They conducted 37 field sobriety tests from the 345 vehicles officers screened for unlicensed or intoxicated drivers, according to an announcement from the department.
Officers also cited three people for driving without a license or with a suspended license.
A seventh driver was arrested on criminal charges unrelated to driving under the influence, police said.
As a deterrent to driving under the influence, CMPD will be setting up checkpoints and conducting saturation patrols monthly, according to the department.
A grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration funded Friday’s checkpoint.
