One driver arrested, another injured in wrong-way crash on 405 ramp
A wrong-way crash on a freeway offramp in Costa Mesa early Sunday left one driver seriously injured and another arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Shortly before 12:30 a.m., a woman in a Toyota SUV drove onto the northbound 405 Freeway offramp at Fairview Road, headed against traffic, said CHP Officer Florentino Olivera.
As the driver sped up to 50 mph, the SUV slammed into a Honda Accord traveling about 65 mph in the opposite direction, Olivera said.
The driver of the Accord suffered major injuries and was taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, according to the CHP.
Officers arrested the SUV’s driver on suspicion of felony DUI, Olivera said. She was not injured in the crash.
The CHP did not release more information on either driver.
