Newport doctor indicted on child porn charges

A federal grand jury indicted a Newport Beach doctor Wednesday on child pornography charges.

Dr. Mark A. Rettenmaier, a practicing gynecological oncologist, had the pornography on a laptop, multiple hard drives and an iPhone, according to a court document charging him with two felonies.

Federal prosecutor Tony Brown declined to reveal details about the case, including exactly what investigators found.

In addition to Rettenmaier’s practice in Newport Beach, his online biography lists him as an associate professor at UCLA and USC.

Rettenmaier’s office did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

Authorities have not arrested Rettenmaier, Brown said, but he is scheduled for a detention hearing in December.
