Boys Basketball: Mustangs win big, lose too
ANAHEIM - The Costa Mesa High boys basketball team improved to 10-3
with a rather predictable 88-51 victory over the Canyon junior varsity
team in the first round of the Canyon Classic Monday.
But, the victory proved costly as senior Shaun Ferryman was ejected for
committing what the official deemed a flagrant foul. Ferryman, a
third-year varsity performer, will sit out today’s 4:30 p.m. quarterfinal
showdown against Crescenta Valley.
Ryan Naff and Nate Jones led four Mustangs in double figures with 20 and
17 points, respectively, but Coach Bob Serven had praise for the strong
second-half play of sophomore David Conte and freshman Danny Krikorian.
The duo combined for only six points, but they helped the Mustangs pull
away after leading only 23-18 after one quarter.
