Girls basketball: Mesa rocks Granite Hills
Tony Altobelli
COSTA MESA - Nancy Hatsushi scored 17 points and dished out eight
assists to lead Costa Mesa High’s girls basketball to a 52-19 win over
Granite Hills in the quarterfinals of the Costa Mesa Tournament Tuesday
night.
“She’s a tough competitor,” Coach Jim Weeks said. “Our offense runs
through her.”
But is was the defense of the Mustangs (8-4) that was the difference,
holding Granite Hills (10-2) to 3 of 21 shooting from the field in the
first half.
The Mustangs outscored the Eagles, 17-2, in the second quarter and never
looked back.
Costa Mesa will advance to the semifinals and take on Mission Viejo
tonight at 8.
